Deep Calls to Deep
“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.” (Psalm 42v7). The words of this psalm are both poetic and deeply emotional, capturing the author’s sense of heartache and turmoil. Wave after wave, the psalmist describes being overwhelmed by life's troubles, as if submerged in an unrelenting storm. Yet, the phrase "deep calls to deep" also reveals the psalmist’s profound need for God, a desperate cry for His presence and help. In our own lives, we too face sorrow and hardship, and like the psalmist, we are reminded of our desperate need for the immeasurable greatness of God. We cannot navigate these turbulent waters on our own. Yet, even in our distress, we can hold on to the promises of his word. “By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.” Psalm 42v8
